Welcome to Aswat
Palestinian Gay Women
We are a group of lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning and queer Palestinian women. We came together in 2002 and established a home for Palestinian LBTQI women to allow safe, supportive and empowering spaces to express and address our personal, social and political struggles as a national indigenous minority living inside Israel; as women in a patriarchal society; and as LBTQI women in a wider hetro-normative culture.
Pinkwashing exposed Aswat's contribution: PINKWASHING: ISRAEL’S INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY AND INTERNAL AGENDA - by Ghadir Shafie
We, the undersigned, Palestinian feminists, human rights activists and representatives of women organizations, hereby declare our full support and deep appreciation for the decision taken by the National Women's Studies Association (NWSA) to stand with the struggle of the indigenous/native Palestinians against the colonial apparatuses used by the Israeli occupation regime. We declare our support for all nonviolent forms of struggle for achieving human rights and for upholding international law and basic human rights.
Aswat - Palestinian Gay Women organized the first queer film festival in Palestine. The three-day festival featured local, regional and international queer films dealing with issues related to sex, sexuality, and gender identity. Screenings were followed by panel discussions and roundtables with directors, activists, artists and academics.
