Welcome to Aswat
Palestinian Gay Women
We are a group of lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning and queer Palestinian women. We came together in 2002 and established a home for Palestinian LBTQI women to allow safe, supportive and empowering spaces to express and address our personal, social and political struggles as a national indigenous minority living inside Israel; as women in a patriarchal society; and as LBTQI women in a wider hetro-normative culture.
KOOZ aswat's first queer film festival in Palestine. The three-day festival features local, regional and international queer films dealing with issues related to sex, sexuality, and gender identity. The screenings will be followed by panel discussions and roundtables with directors, activists, artists and academics.
On the 11th of May, Aswat and Isha L'Isha hosted a conversation with scholar and activist Karma Chávez, associate professor in the Department of Communication Arts and affiliate in the Program in Chican@ and Latin@ Studies and the Department of Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison USA.
We were deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of a great activist and a author and comrade Leslie Feinberg who died on November 15. Our thoughts are with her family and her partner, the poet Minnie Bruce Pratt.
