Aswat's Annual Report for 2006, to read the report please click here>> In 2006, Aswat celebrated several successes as we seized every opportunity to further develop our programs, expand our range of activities, enrich our knowledge, raise public awareness, and most importantly, empower more and more women to improve their social status, both as Palestinians and as lesbians. Read more>> Rauda Morcos and Aswat Receive International Award for Human Rights The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) announced today 22nd March that its 2006 Felipa de Souza Award will be presented in May to Rauda Morcos, co-founder of Aswat (Voices), the first group for Palestinian lesbians in the region. In March 2006, Aswat hosted a mini conference with Helem - Lebanese Protection for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgenders. On Friday April 28th, Aswat had its first party open to public to celebrate the launching of the website. U.S. Tour & Felipa de Souza Award From May 21st to June 8th Aswat's General Coordinator travelled to the U.S. where, among other events, she received the Felipa de Souza Award at an awards ceremony in New York on May 23, 2006 and in San Francisco on May 25, 2006. Statement by Aswat: "Parade to the Wall - World Pride under Occupation 2006" From September 25th to October 3rd, Aswat's General Coordinator was invited to a speaking tour in London, Kent and Scotland.. Belgium and Holland Speaking Tour From November 1st to November 24th, Women in Black Leuven organised a tour for Aswat. From November 2nd to November 5th, Aswat participated in the Astraea Foundation Retreat for Women and Trans People in Texas. |
